Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is the main Ayurvedic rejuvenative herb for women. It has been traditionally used to both nourish and cleanse the blood as well as support the female reproductive functions; nourishing the uterus and alleviating menstrual irregularities. Shatavari is considered to be an excellent herb for helping to maintain a healthy urinary tract and strengthening the immune system. Traditionally used to stimulate the production of female hormones, Shatavari may be translated as "100 spouses," implying its ability to increase fertility and vitality. It has been traditionally taken as a supplement after childbirth to promote the flow and production of breastmilk, and is also useful during menopause to reduce symptoms such as hot flushes, dryness and impaired concentration, as well as for women who have had hysterectomies.
